Learning to Read the World from Multiple Perspectives: Peace Education toward Diversity & Inclusion

The International Institute on Peace Education (IIPE) 2010 will take place in Colombia from July 11-17, 2010.  The Institute is being co-organized by the National Peace Academy (home of the IIPE secretariat) and Fundación Escuelas de Paz in partnership with the Colombian National Ministry of Education and a consortium of organizations invested in furthering peace education in Colombia. 

The IIPE was founded in 1982 by Dr. Betty Reardon and faculty colleagues at Teachers College Columbia University and has been held annually in different parts of the world.  For 27 years the IIPE has been providing unique short-term, residential, cooperative learning experiences in peace education.  The IIPE is not a conference but rather a “learning community” in which the organizers and participants work together to nurture an inclusive, highly interactive learning environment.  It is an intensive multicultural and cooperative learning experience in which participants learn from and with each other about substantive peace issues and interactive teaching approaches. The IIPE is also an opportunity for networking and community building among those who educate and work for a culture of peace in the host region and around the world.

Aprendiendo a leer el mundo desde múltiples perspectivas: Educación para la Paz  hacia la diversidad y la inclusion 

El Instituto Internacional de Educación para la Paz (IIPE) 2010 se llevará a cabo en Colombia del 11 al 17 julio de 2010. El evento está co-organizado por la National Peace Academy (que actualmente ejerce el secretariado del IIPE) y la Fundación Escuelas de Paz, en parcería con el Ministerio de Educación de Colombia, la Secretaría de Educación de Bogotá y un consorcio de organizaciones interesadas en posicionar la Educación para la Paz en Colombia.

El IIPE fue fundado en 1982 por la Doctora Betty Reardon y otros colegas de la facultad del Educación (Teachers College) de la Universidad de Columbia en Nueva York, y se ha realizado anualmente en diferentes partes del mundo. Durante 27 años el IIPE ha proporcionado experiencias cooperativas, intensivas, de corta duración, a educadores para la paz. El IIPE no es una conferencia, es  "una comunidad de estudio" en el cual los organizadores y participantes trabajan juntos para nutrir un ambiente de estudio global, altamente interactivo para el ejercicio de culturas de paz. Es una experiencia multicultural y cooperativa intensiva en la cual los participantes actúan recíprocamente en plenarias, talleres, grupos de reflexión y actividades informales, para aprender los unos de los otros sobre cuestiones sustanciales de la construcción de paz, a través de un proceso de enseñanza interactivo. El IIPE es también una oportunidad para hacer redes y construir comunidad entre educadores para la paz y trabajadores de las culturas de paz en la región anfitriona y en el mundo entero.
