Rev. Liz Alexander has a BA in Early Childhood Education from Trenton State College (now known as The College of NJ), an MA in Special Education from Jersey City State College in NJ, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Union Theological Seminary in NYC
Professional Experiences in Peacebuilding / Community Building
Liz is a pastor, teacher, community builder, and activist. After almost thirty years of teaching early childhood education and special education, she entered seminary and became a pastor inNew York City through The Presbyterian Church (USA) where she served at both The Riverside Church in NYC, and the Church of Gethsemane in Brooklyn (a congregation founded by men and women who have been in prison). After recently retiring, she continues to teach and preach on occasion and is now working part-time at Olivet Presbyterian Church in Staten Island as a Parish Associate and Host Site Coordinator for Storm Sandy relief workers.
She has a lifetime of work in the community as an advocate for social justice and peace. Her years of experience in education and ministry and her passion for peacebuilding and peacelearning extends into all her life as she engages in her community and beyond to work with others to address issues related to climate change and ecology, human rights economic justice, and interfaith dialogue. She has been a part of the National Peace Academy since the 2010 PPI, and a facilitator since 2011.
Some of her hobbies include watercolor painting, sustainable travel adventures, and cooking.
She is the mother of two and step-mother of three adult children and a proud grandmother of two girls. Her spouse and soul mate is Martha Gallahue.
