The National Peace Academy’s Comprehensive Development Campaign

The Strong Foundation

The National Peace Academy has come a long way since its founding in March 2009 at the Global Stakeholder Summit at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Our signature Peacebuilding Peacelearning Intensive, our National Certificate Program, the International Institute on Peace Education, our engagement with the Global Alliance for Ministries and Infrastructures for Peace, and, most recently, our affiliation with one of the premier peacebuilding educational institutions in the world, George Mason University’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution and its Point of View peacebuilding conference facility – all have contributed to a goal of cultures of peace across the United States and the world.

Throughout, our intention has been and always will be to have not only peaceful families and peaceful communities but for all corporate, nonprofit, and government workplaces to understand, embody, and practice peace as it is defined in the Earth Charter: “…peace is the wholeness created by right relationships with oneself, other persons, other cultures, other life, Earth, and the larger whole of which all are a part.”

The Opportunity to Establish an Enduring Peace

With this rich history, we find that we are now increasingly receiving invitations from many other peacebuilding organizations and initiatives to join with them in collaborative efforts to, for example, transform the racial and religious divides in this country, spread restorative practices in schools, and develop peacebuilding curricula for middle schools, to name just a few. This is indeed an exciting time to be involved in this cutting edge field of learning and community organizing.

Now, in 2016, we have the grand opportunity to build on this strong foundation and take the National Peace Academy on a quantum leap to new heights of reach and effectiveness in bending history from the path of fear and violence to one of enduring peace. Therefore, in order to respond to and realize the transformative potentials of opportunities such as these, and generally to dramatically expand and sustain the work of the National Peace Academy into the future, we are launching a comprehensive development campaign, Building on a Strong Foundation – Establishing an Enduring Peace.

The Campaign

Specifically, Building on a Strong Foundation – Establishing an Enduring Peace is a 3-3-3 campaign - 3 years, with a goal of $3 million, to support three integrated areas of development:

Achieving these three development goals will capacitate the National Peace Academy to more dramatically and effectively address the critical challenges facing our country and the world today as well as future needs that we cannot yet imagine.
